Encanta Counselling & Wellness

"I'm exhausted from living two different lives."

You’ve promised yourself it’s the last time. You’ve meant it, every time. And then you’re back there again, watching yourself do the thing you’d already decided you were done with. There’s the version of you everyone sees, and the one who deletes the history, and holding both is wearing you out. You don’t recognize yourself anymore, and the shame is so loud, you’re too scared to tell anyone.

Therapy in Cambridge can help you understand what’s underneath the pattern and find your way back to a life you love living.

Feel in control of your choices again.

Does this sound familiar?

You’re not beyond help. You’re stuck in a loop that shame keeps feeding, and loops can be understood and interrupted.

You might be:

Noticing yourself in these words takes courage. Let's take the next step toward a life you control and love.

Sex Addiction Therapy in Cambridge, ON

What We Can Work On Together

Understanding what porn is doing for you, and what changes when it stops being a choice and starts being a compulsion also referred to as porn addiction.

Working with behaviour that’s moved past pleasure and into a loop you can’t seem to step out of.

Making sense of the pattern, and rebuilding honesty with yourself first, then with the people you’ve hurt.

A judgement-free space to understand the behaviour, the needs underneath it, and the cost it’s carrying for you.

When what you’re doing and who you want to be have drifted apart, and you want to close the gap.

Loosening the grip of the shame cycle, because shame is the fuel here rather than the cure.

Working with the old wounds and history underneath the behaviour, since it’s so often part of the picture.

Rebuilding trust, honesty, and intimacy with your partner when and if you’re both ready.

How We Work Together in Therapy for Compulsive Sexual Behaviours

At Encanta Counselling & Wellness, we won’t hand you a rulebook and tell you to follow it, because you’ve likely tried that already and it’s part of why you’re here. Instead, we get curious. What is this behaviour doing for you? What’s it soothing, avoiding, or meeting? Once you understand that, choice becomes possible in a way that willpower never delivered.

We draw from a range of approaches:

Personalized support to explore what’s underneath the behaviour, in a space where you can finally say the whole thing out loud without hiding any of it.

Therapy that helps you and your partner(s) rebuild honesty, trust, and intimacy after secrecy or betrayal, whenever you’re both ready for it.

Expert, open sex therapy that treats your sexuality as something to understand rather than something to police.

A mindfulness-based approach that helps you sit with an urge without acting on it and choose what matters to you instead.

A collaborative approach that makes room for the part of you that doesn’t want to stop, because pretending that part isn’t there is what keeps the loop running.

A compassionate approach to the history underneath the behaviour, because out-of-control sexual behaviours are so often a solution to something older and more painful.

Information and resources to help you understand why the loop keeps closing, and what actually interrupts it. Understanding tends to do more than willpower ever did.

Structured exercises and prompts to help you track your triggers, notice your patterns, and practice new skills between sessions.

Shame is a soul eating emotion.

Therapy for Compulsive Sexual Behaviours FAQs

Confidentiality is crucial to the therapeutic relationship, and it matters especially here, where secrecy has probably been part of the pain. What you share stays between you and your therapist. Your therapist will explain the limits of confidentiality in your first session, and you’ll find them in your consent form too. You’re always welcome to ask about it in your consultation before you commit to anything.

No. At Encanta Counselling & Wellness, we don’t use the words “sex addiction” or “sex addict.” So many people already arrive carrying deep shame just for seeking support, and a label like that only adds to it. We work from a framework that looks at the why of your sexual behaviours, what needs they might be meeting, and how to bring them back into alignment with your values. Our approach is grounded in the guidelines of AASECT, the leading professional body in sex therapy.

That’s completely your call. Plenty of people start with individual therapy first and tell nobody. Over time, you might decide to pursue couples therapy to repair what’s been hurt and build a stronger foundation, or you might not. There’s no right or wrong way to approach this, and nobody here will pressure you either way.

Many people come to us after trying everything: rules, blockers, promises, sheer willpower. What makes therapy different is that it offers accountability within a relationship and a place to go deeper than the surface behaviour. With the right support, a sex therapist in Cambridge can help you work through shame, trauma, attachment wounds, and unmet needs, which is where the real change tends to come from.

Finding a sex therapist who approaches this without judgment, from a sex-positive framework, can be genuinely hard. Our therapists have completed sex therapy training, and we believe in judgement-free support. We offer in-person sessions in Cambridge and virtual therapy across Ontario, so you can access support from anywhere in the province, discreetly. Book a free consultation to begin.

Not necessarily, and that’s your call rather than ours. For some people, stepping away from porn entirely is genuinely what helps. For others, the goal is a relationship with it that feels chosen instead of compulsive. What matters is what lines up with your values and what you want your life to look like. We’ll help you figure out which one is true for you, rather than deciding it for you.

Frequency alone isn’t the measure. There’s no number of times that tips you over a line, and plenty of people have very active sex lives with no distress at all. What matters is whether the behaviour feels genuinely out of your control, whether it keeps happening despite the consequences, and whether it’s causing you real distress or getting in the way of your relationships, work, or wellbeing. That’s the question worth exploring, rather than the count.

No. Abstinence isn’t what we’re aiming for, and it’s rarely what helps. The goal is a sexual life that feels good, feels chosen, and lines up with your values, so this work is about giving your life back rather than shrinking it. What that looks like is different for everyone, and you get to define it. We’ll help you figure out what you want, rather than handing you someone else’s rules.

Sometimes distress about sexual behaviour comes from the behaviour itself, and sometimes it comes from shame you absorbed about sex from family, religion, or culture. The research is clear that moral disapproval alone can make someone feel out of control even when their behaviour is fairly ordinary. Part of our work is untangling those threads honestly, so you’re working toward your values rather than someone else’s.

Yes, and it’s very common for these to travel together. Working on sexual behaviour while ignoring untreated depression, anxiety, or trauma rarely produces lasting change, since they feed each other. We look at the whole picture rather than treating one piece in isolation.
