Encanta Counselling & Wellness

Sex shouldn't feel like something to survive.

Do you feel like you dread sex before it even starts? Maybe your body hurts, or won’t respond, or responds in ways that embarrass you. Maybe you want it, but the desire just isn’t there, and you’re tired of explaining that to someone who takes it personally. Or you know exactly what you want, and you’ve never said it out loud because you’re convinced it would horrify them.

It shouldn’t be this hard to enjoy sex, to talk about it with the people you love, or to feel safe in your own body. Sex therapy in Cambridge changes that.

Cultivate a sex life you love.

Does this sound familiar?

Sexual struggles are far more common than anyone lets on. No matter what you’re going through, there’s a space for it here.

You might notice:

None of this makes you broken. It makes you human. Let's get you to a sex life you love.

What Can Sex Therapy Help With?

Affirming support to explore your desires, negotiate needs, and deepen trust with your partner(s). We won’t try to change you, pathologize what turns you on, or make assumptions about where it came from. Recommended for folks exploring kink for the first time, navigating power dynamics in a relationship, or carrying shame about desires they’ve never said out loud. Encanta is a proud kink-affirming practice.

Whole-person support for the pressure, frustration, and anxiety that can build around erections. Recommended when performance worry has turned sex into something stressful, when erections have become a source of conflict with a partner, or when the physical side has been ruled out, and you’re looking for what’s underneath. We treat the mind and body together, with warmth and compassion.

Making sense of mismatched or low desire without blame. Recommended for partners who want sex at different frequencies, or for anyone whose interest has faded and left them wondering what’s wrong with them. Here’s the reframe: desire is responsive, meaning it often shows up after connection rather than before. Desire can be cultivated, and we’ll help you tend it.

Working through the physical and emotional sides of painful sex, so intimacy can feel good again. Recommended for folks living with pelvic floor pain, pain during penetration, or the fear and tension that builds when your body has learned to brace. We work alongside your medical care, tending to the parts that a physical exam can’t reach.

A compassionate, non-shaming space to bring your compulsive sexual behaviours back in line with your values. Recommended when sex, porn, or seeking feels out of step with how you want to live your life. Some may refer to it as sex addiction; we refer to it as out-of-control sexual behaviours, as we believe you can gain control with the right support.

Getting out of your head and back into the moment, so sex stops feeling like a test you might fail. Recommended when you’re stuck spectating your own experience, dreading intimacy before it starts, or so busy monitoring how it’s going that you miss the whole thing. Anxiety and arousal use a lot of the same wiring, which is why this responds so well to therapy.

Gently working through sexual harm that still lives in your body, your bedroom, and your closest relationships. Recommended when a past hurt keeps showing up in the present, whether that’s flinching at touch, going numb, or bracing without knowing why. We move entirely at your pace, and you never have to recount what happened in detail. It’s one of our biggest specialties.

Untangling the guilt and “wrongness” so many of us absorbed about our bodies, our desires, and what we’re allowed to want. Recommended for people carrying messages from family, religion, or culture that never quite fit, or who feel a flush of embarrassment every time sex comes up. Shame thrives in silence, so we’ll start by saying it out loud, together.

Why Choose Encanta for Sex Therapy?

Sex Therapy Is Our Specialty, Not a Sideline

Plenty of therapy practices list sex therapy among a dozen other services. Here, it’s the heart of what we do. That means you’re working with therapists who’ve sat with these conversations hundreds of times, and who know the difference between responsive desire and low desire, between kink and compulsion, between pain that needs a pelvic floor physiotherapist and pain that needs a safe room to talk in.

No explaining what a polycule is. No defining your kink. No bracing for the moment your therapist’s face changes. We already know the language and the communities, so you can skip straight to the real work. That alone tends to save people months.

A lot of therapists are one or the other. Sexuality and trauma are so often braided together, and treating one without understanding the other leaves half the picture untouched. Our team holds both at once, so your history and your pleasure get equal care.

Nothing physical happens in session, ever, and nothing gets pushed. You decide what you share and when. Any exercises happen privately, on your own time, in your own space. You’re in the driver’s seat from your very first consultation.

How We Work Together in Sex Therapy

At Encanta Counselling & Wellness, sex therapy is talk therapy with a specialty, exploring the emotional, relational, mental, and sometimes physical sides of your sexuality. Emily Nagoski calls your sexuality “a garden you can cultivate”, and we love that, because it means nothing needs fixing. It just needs tending.

Two affectionate young lovers bonding fondly at home. Romantic young couple embracing each other warmly while standing in their living room during the day.

We draw from a range of tools and approaches:

Private, personalized support to explore your desire, your body, and your history.

A room where you and your partner(s) can finally talk about sex without it turning into a fight, and start finding your way back to each other.

Every desire, kink, orientation, and relationship structure is welcome here. We centre pleasure, consent, and your well-being, and we leave the judgement at the door.

Sexual harm lives in the body long after the traumatic event. We work gently with what your nervous system is still holding, so intimacy can start to feel safe again.

A space where your identity, your body, and who you love are understood and celebrated, with no explaining and no defending required.

A structured touch exercise that takes performance, orgasm, and pressure off the table, so you can rediscover what feels good from a sensory experience. Done privately, on your own time.

Breathing and body-based practices that pull you out of your head and back into the moment, which is where pleasure lives.

The sex education most of us never got. Understanding how desire, arousal, and your body really work tends to dissolve a whole lot of shame on its own.

Reflective prompts and exercises to explore your desires, boundaries, and patterns between sessions, in your own time and your own space.

Pleasure is the measure.

Sex Therapy FAQs

Sex therapy is talk therapy, with exercises woven in, and nothing physical ever happens in your individual or couples session. It’s a specialized form of psychotherapy that explores the emotional, relational, mental, and sometimes physical dimensions of your sexuality and intimacy. We use conversation, reflection, and evidence-based approaches to work through what’s going on. Any homework happens outside of the session, privately, on your own.

Yes, and it’s one of our biggest specialties at Encanta Counselling & Wellness. Sexual trauma doesn’t just live in your past; it shapes your present. Working from trauma-informed and sex-positive frameworks, your sex therapist in Cambridge will help you find safety in your body, discover what intimacy means for you, and bridge the gap with the people you love.

Yes! We work with all kinds of relationship structures and sexual interests. Our sex therapist won’t try to change you, pathologize you, or judge you. We believe sexual desires are a normal, healthy part of being human. Encanta Counselling & Wellness is a proud sex-positive, kink-affirming practice, so you can skip the explaining and get straight to the real stuff.
Not at all. Plenty of people start with individual therapy for sexual concerns. You don’t need a partner to explore your desire, interests, pain, trauma, or sexuality. For those who do have partners, many find couples sessions a safe, affirming place to work through the relational side of sex together.

Yes! Encanta Counselling & Wellness is based in Cambridge, Ontario, and we offer in-person sessions at our office for individuals and couples. If you’re outside the Waterloo Region, we provide convenient, accessible virtual therapy for people across Ontario. Either way, our free consultations are a chance to connect with your therapist and ask anything you need to.

Mostly, we get to know you. Your Cambridge sex therapist will ask what’s been going on, how it’s affecting your life and relationships, and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to, and it’s completely normal to feel nervous walking in. Think of it as a first conversation to see how it feels to work together.
Yes. What you share stays between you and your sex therapist, so you have a genuinely safe space to be honest, including about the things you’ve never said out loud. There are a few legal limits around safety, which your therapist will walk you through in your first session and outline in your consent form. You’re always welcome to ask questions about confidentiality before you begin.

Never, and we mean it. Sexual difficulties are far more common than anyone admits, and there’s nothing you could bring that we haven’t held with care before. Our whole practice exists because these conversations deserve a room where nobody flinches. Whatever it is, you can say it here.

Sometimes, and only ever stuff you’ve agreed to. Exercises might be solo reflection, mindfulness practice, something to read, or a sensate focus exercise with a partner if you have one and it fits what you’re working on. Everything happens privately, on your own time, in your own space, and nothing gets assigned that you’re not on board with. You can always say a suggestion isn’t for you, and we’ll find another way.

Most people start weekly or biweekly, then space sessions out as things settle and their own tools start doing the heavy lifting. There’s no set timeline, since it depends on what you’re working through and how long it’s been going on. Some concerns shift in a handful of sessions, while sexual trauma or long-standing pain tends to unfold over more time. We’ll find a rhythm that works for your life and check in on progress as we go.
