"It shouldn't be this hard to be who I am."

You’ve been the only queer person in a therapist’s office, burning the whole session teaching them your language instead of getting actual help. You’re so tired of shrinking yourself to keep everyone else comfortable, and there’s that shame that was never yours to begin with. Some days you’re just scared, because the world doesn’t always feel safe.

You deserve to be understood and celebrated, not just tolerated. 2SLGBTQIA+ therapy in Cambridge can give you that.

Cultivate a life you’re proud of.

Does this sound familiar?

There’s no threshold you need to cross to deserve affirming care. Whether you’re out, questioning, closeted, or somewhere in between, you belong here.

You might be:

Noticing yourself in these words is a brave first step. Let's take the next one together.

Match With a Queer-Affirming Therapist in Cambridge, ON

Many of us on this team are members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community ourselves, and the rest are genuine, engaged allies. We’re sex-positive, anti-oppressive, and trauma-focused, and we’re comfortable with all of it: identity, coming out, gender, kink, sex, and the parts of your story other therapists tiptoe around. Come meet the team and find your person.

What Queer-Affirming Therapy Means at Encanta

“Affirming” is on a lot of therapy websites, and it can mean anything from real expertise to simple politeness. Here’s what it means to us:

Your identity is never the problem to be solved.

We know the terminology, the history, and the intersections, so you're not paying us to educate us.

We understand that being queer has nothing to do with being out, and we'll move at whatever pace is yours.

We hold the whole picture: internalized shame, minority stress, discrimination, family, and the joy too.

You lead, we follow, always.

What We Can Work On Together

Room to explore your gender and sexuality at your own pace, with zero pressure and zero timeline.

Easing the worry, hypervigilance, and chronic stress of moving through a world that isn’t always safe.

Support to move from numb and heavy toward more hope, energy, and connection.

Gently processing the hurt you’ve lived through, at your pace, with trauma and PTSD therapy.

Holding the real weight of rejection, microaggressions, and vigilance, without you having to justify any of it.

Untangling the messages you absorbed about who you’re allowed to be, so pride can take root.

Holding all of who you are at once, including how race, culture, disability, and faith intersect with your queerness.

Making peace with your body, including the complicated feelings around gender, dysphoria, and being seen.

Navigating partners, chosen family, and the ones who haven’t caught up yet.

Open, shame-free therapy around sex, desire, and pleasure, including the barriers to sexual health care that queer folks so often run into.

How We Work Together in 2SLGBTQIA+ Therapy

At Encanta Counselling & Wellness, we won’t push you toward a label or an identity. Our job is to help you build the self-acceptance and resilience to meet whatever comes, and to enjoy the good stuff too!

We draw from a range of affirming approaches:

Validating, supportive care with a real commitment to embracing your unique identity and experience.

Sex therapy to address the emotional, psychological, and physical sides of sexual health and intimacy.

Therapy that helps partners improve communication, resolve conflict, and strengthen your emotional and romantic bonds.

A structured therapy that helps you identify and shift negative thought patterns.

Skills like emotional regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness to improve your wellbeing.

EMDR uses guided bilateral movements that help you process traumatic memories and reduce their emotional impact.

An approach that meets the different parts of you, each with its own perspective and role, to promote healing and self-compassion.

Identifying and building on the innate strengths and resources already in you, to fuel continued growth.

Helping couples and individuals identify and shift negative emotional patterns, so you can build stronger, more secure connections.

A compassionate approach to help you heal from trauma, creating a safe, empowering space centred on your resilience.

Reading that helps you explore representation, your interests, and your identity, plus structured exercises to reflect and practice new skills.

Information and resources to help you understand why you act the way you do, and what change could look like.

We deserve to experience love fully, equally, without shame and without compromise

2SLGBTQIA+ Therapy FAQs

Therapy can be incredibly beneficial for queer individuals, couples, and relationships. Our therapists work from a trauma-informed, queer-affirming framework, so therapy feels safe from the start and gives you a place to work on trauma, mental health, your sex life, your relationships, or your self-esteem. Change might come quickly or slowly depending on your circumstances, and a supportive therapist can help you build the self-acceptance and resilience you’re looking for.

Absolutely. A trauma-informed, queer-affirming therapist understands that being queer has nothing to do with being out. We offer a safe space to explore your identity entirely at your own pace. Your queer therapist in Cambridge will respect your privacy and support you in whatever way feels right for you, with no pressure and no timeline.

2SLGBTQIA+ stands for Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and other gender and sexual identities. The “2S” at the beginning honours Indigenous cultures’ recognition of Two-Spirit people, who hold unique cultural significance. The “+” welcomes all the identities not explicitly listed, which are every bit as valid and important.

Yes! Many of our therapists identify as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community themselves, and the rest are committed allies. We’re passionate about creating a genuinely affirming, safe space where everyone feels welcome exactly as they are.

Our team of LGBTQ therapists in Cambridge works with individuals, couples, and polycules navigating mental health challenges, relationship issues , gender and sexuality exploration, sexual concerns, trauma, and so much more. Whatever you’re bringing, there’s a good chance we’ve held it before, and we’d love to hold it with you. Book a free consultation to begin.

Yes. That includes exploring your gender, navigating gender dysphoria, working through the exhaustion of being misgendered or having to advocate for yourself constantly, and the complicated feelings that can come with your body. We’ll use your name and pronouns from the first contact, and we won’t treat your gender as the thing to be solved.

A lot of queer folks arrive cautious because someone made their identity into a clinical question mark, or made them do the educating. Here’s the thing: you don’t have to lead with it, test us, or brace for a reaction. Our intake asks for your pronouns and identity because it helps us care for you well, and you can share as much or as little as you like. Take your time, we’re here for you through it all.

Of course, and please ask. Many of our therapists identify as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and for some people it matters enormously to sit with someone who’s lived something like it. For others, an allied therapist with training and warmth is the right fit. There’s no wrong preference here. Mention it in your free consultation and we’ll help match you with someone who feels right.

Yes! Your identity doesn’t have to be the topic for it to matter. Plenty of individuals and couples come to us for work stress, grief, a breakup, or burnout, and simply want a therapist who won’t make their queerness a thing. You’ll get affirming care as the baseline, and we’ll spend the session on whatever you came to talk about.

For lots of people, virtual actually works better. You get to do this from a space where you already feel safe and access affirming care even if there isn’t much of it where you live. We offer in-person sessions at our Cambridge office and virtual therapy across Ontario, including Kitchener, Waterloo, and Guelph, so you can pick whatever feels most comfortable, and switch whenever you like.
