"Why am I the way that I am?"
You’ve fought your way through things that seem to come easy for everyone else. You mask all day, then crash the minute you’re alone. Maybe the shame tells you that you’re lazy, too much, or just not trying hard enough. You’re worn out from working overtime to seem capable and worthwhile, and you don’t know how to change it.
You’re not the problem. It’s just that nobody ever handed you the right toolkit.
In ADHD & Autism therapy in Cambridge, we’ll understand how your brain works and find tools that work for you, so you can stop performing and start living.
Get support that fits your brain.
Signs that neurodivergence may be part of your story
There’s no single way to be ADHD or autistic, and so much of it stays hidden behind years of masking and coping.
- Feeling like you're constantly performing a version of yourself that isn't quite you
- Feeling like you can never quite catch up to everyone else
- Intense emotional pain from criticism or rejection, real or perceived (hello, RSD)
- Sensory overwhelm from sounds, textures, lights, or touch
- Struggling with planning, follow-through, and where the time even went
- Burnout from pushing through a world that wasn't built for your brain
- Shame or self-doubt that's followed you as long as you can remember
- Grieving a late diagnosis and rereading your whole life through a new lens
If you're nodding along, you're in good company here. We’ll help you start feeling at home in your own mind.
Meet Our Team
Match With an ADHD or Autism Therapist in Cambridge, ON
We’re a team of sex-positive, queer-affirming, neurodivergent-affirming therapists. We hold space for the masking, the burnout, and the shame you’ve been carrying, and we’re genuinely intrigued by the way you think. We can’t wait to meet you.
ADHD, Autism & Neurodivergence
Whether you’re diagnosed, self-identified, or still figuring it out, we meet your brain with curiosity instead of judgement, and help you find what works for you.
Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)
That intense, almost physical wave of pain from criticism or perceived failure. It’s incredibly common with ADHD, and it’s something we can help you understand and soften.
Burnout
The deep depletion that comes from over-functioning and pushing through a world that wasn’t built for your brain. We’ll help you recover and build a pace that’s sustainable.
Executive Dysfunction
The very real struggles with planning, follow-through, and daily functioning. We’ll help you build systems that fit your brain instead of fighting it.
Time Blindness & Procrastination
When time slips away or tasks feel impossible to start, no matter how much you care. We’ll work on strategies that meet your brain where it’s at, without the shame.
Focus & Concentration
The push-pull of scattered attention and deep hyperfocus. Together we’ll find ways to work with your attention rather than against it.
Cognitive Flexibility
When shifting gears, changing plans, or moving between tasks feels genuinely hard. We’ll help you build gentler transitions and more room to adapt.
Masking
The exhausting work of performing “normal” all day, then crashing once you’re finally alone. Here, you can start to unmask and simply be yourself.
Sensory Processing Difficulties
The daily overwhelm of sounds, textures, lights, and touch. We’ll map what drains you and what helps you regulate, so everyday life feels less like too much.
Late Diagnosis Grief
Processing a later-in-life ADHD or autism realization, and gently rewriting your life story with the compassion you always deserved.
Anxiety & Depression
So often, anxiety and depression ride along with being neurodivergent in a world that wasn’t built for you. We treat what’s underneath, not just the surface.
Trauma & PTSD
Years of feeling misunderstood or of masking to stay safe can leave real marks and hurts. We hold that history and past experience with care.
Intimacy & Connection Differences
Sensory sensitivities, communication differences, and masking can make closeness feel confusing or overwhelming. We hold this with openness and zero judgment, and can bring in sex therapy where it helps.

ADHD & Autism Therapy FAQs
I've never been formally diagnosed with ADHD or autism. Can I still come to therapy?
Absolutely. You don’t need a formal diagnosis to access neurodivergent-affirming therapy at Encanta Counselling & Wellness. So many adults, particularly women, women of colour, and late-identified individuals, spent years flying under the radar because they didn’t fit the textbook picture. Psychotherapists can’t diagnose, but we can help you navigate the healthcare system and explore referrals for assessment if that’s something you want.
How do I know if what I'm experiencing is ADHD or autism, or just anxiety and depression?
Anxiety and depression are incredibly common in neurodivergent people, and they’re often symptoms of living in a world that wasn’t built for your brain rather than the root cause. Years of masking, chronic overstimulation, and feeling like you’re failing at things that seem easy for everyone else take a real toll. A neurodivergent-affirming therapist in Cambridge doesn’t just treat the surface; we help you understand what’s underneath it.
I'm neurodivergent, and I also have questions about my sexuality or intimacy. Can therapy help with that too?
Yes! Research shows neurodivergent folks are more likely to hold diverse sexual identities and to face unique experiences around sex, like sensory differences. Our team is sex-positive and neurodivergent-affirming, so we can help you navigate intimacy and connection in a way that honours how you’re wired.
Can therapy actually help with ADHD and autism, or do I just have to learn to cope?
Therapy won’t change who you are, and honestly, it shouldn’t! Neurodivergent-affirming therapy is about embracing who you are without the shame and finding what genuinely works for your brain. We’ll collaborate with you to build strategies designed for neurodivergent minds rather than against them.
How do I find a neurodivergent-affirming therapist near me in the Waterloo Region?
Finding a neurodivergent, autism, or ADHD therapist in Cambridge who truly affirms how you’re wired matters so much. At Encanta Counselling & Wellness, our therapists have real experience and training in ADHD and autism. We offer in-person sessions at our office in Cambridge and virtual therapy across Ontario, including Waterloo, Kitchener, and Guelph.
Can therapy help with ADHD without medication?
Yes. Medication helps a lot of people, but it’s one option, not a requirement, and therapy stands on its own too. We focus on building strategies that work with your brain, executive function support, emotional regulation, and undoing the shame that tends to pile up over the years. If you’re curious whether medication might also fit, we can’t prescribe, but we can point you toward the right professional to explore it alongside your sessions.
Is virtual ADHD and autism therapy as good as in-person therapy?
For lots of neurodivergent clients, virtual can actually feel better. You get to join from a space that’s already set up for your sensory needs, skip the commute, and stim or move however you need to while we talk. We offer both options, so you can pick whatever helps you feel most comfortable.
What's the difference between ADHD coaching and ADHD therapy?
ADHD coaching tends to be practical and future-focused, building systems for time, tasks, and follow-through. ADHD therapy goes deeper too, tending to the emotional side, like burnout, self-doubt, and old shame that often come with being neurodivergent. Our approach weaves plenty of practical strategy into the emotional work, so you get support for how you function and how you feel.
How often will I need to come to therapy?
There’s no one-size-fits-all rhythm, and we’ll figure out yours together. Many individuals start weekly or biweekly to build momentum, then space sessions out as things settle and their own tools start doing more of the work. We’re mindful that consistency and executive function don’t always mix easily, so we’ll build a cadence that’s realistic for your brain rather than one that sets you up to feel behind.
My partner is neurodivergent (or I am). Can we come to therapy together?
Yes, and we love this work! We support neurotypical/neurodivergent and neurodivergent/ neurodivergent couples navigating communication styles, sensory needs, rejection sensitivity, and connection. Sometimes different brains just need a translator and a few shared tools.
